Lace Snowflake

In this blog post you will learn how to embroider lace snowflakes on tulle and water-soluble stabilizer, leaving a freestanding snowflake behind after washing.
    Required Materials
    • Tulle fabric
    • Water-soluble stabilizer
    Tools
    • Embroidery frame
    • Scissors

After you picked or created your snowflake design in Turtle Stitch, ensure that the stitch density is appropriate. This will help the snowflake hold its shape once the stabilizer is removed. Cut a piece of tulle large enough to fit your embroidery frame and cover the entire design area. Then, cut a piece of water-soluble stabilizer to match the size of the frame and slightly larger than the tulle piece. Place the water-soluble stabilizer on the bottom and the tulle fabric on top of it.

Secure the tulle and stabilizer in an embroidery frame. Make sure the tulle is smooth and taut but not overstretched to avoid distorting the design. Begin the stitching process. The machine will embroider the snowflake design directly onto the tulle, using the water-soluble stabilizer underneath to provide support. Monitor the embroidery to ensure smooth stitching. Be aware that tulle is delicate and adjustments might be needed.

Once the embroidery is complete, carefully remove the embroidery frame from the machine. Now, dissolve the stabilizer by soaking the embroidered snowflake in water. You can submerge the entire piece in the water or use a damp sponge or cloth to remove the stabilizer from the snowflake. Gently rub the water-soluble stabilizer away, being careful not to damage the delicate tulle or stitches. Rinse the tulle thoroughly with clean water to ensure all stabilizer is removed

Pat the embroidered tulle with a towel to remove excess water. After that, lay the embroidered snowflakes flat to air dry. Once the tulle snowflakes are completely dry, you can press them gently with an iron on a very low setting or use a steaming method to avoid direct heat. Be careful not to press too hard as it could flatten the stitches. Once dry, you can trim any excess tulle around the snowflakes, leaving a clean edge around the embroidered design.

Congratulations, you’ve finished your freestanding embroidered snowflake!
